One of my favorite players I didn't know about until this week:
Kai Sotto (TSF)- Solid big man who can rebound, block shots and score. Check out his post game video below:
Other players that impressed me:
Frankie Collins (AZ Compass)- one of the best floor generals I got to watch this past weekend
Max Lew (AZ Compass)- athletic wing with a smooth jumper. Great to see his growth over the years
Jaden Hardy (Coronado)- very athletic wing that is fun to watch in the open court
Dior Johnson (Mayfair)- As a freshman he showed a lot of great decision making even with his teammates not being able to capitalize. One of my favorite new players to watch.
Milos Uzan (Desert Pines)- Showed up in a big game and produced. Very skilled point guard.
Deshawn Wiley (Desert Pines)- Very athletic and exciting player to watch. His dunks sparked his teams first victory against Mayfair.
Anthony Swift (Desert Pines)- Outplayed the entire Mayfair front court and was very impressive 15 feet and in.
Zaon Collins (Bishop Gorman)- Sneaky athletic PG who shows composure and leadership. Looking forward to seeing him play more this year.
Mwani Wilkinson (Bishop Gorman)- He might have had the best dunk I saw all weekend. Solid player with quick bounce.
Players I was disappointed by:
Josh Christopher (Mayfair)- After having one of the best "hoop mixtapes" I've seen in the last decade, I was highly disappointed in the actual product that I saw on the court.
Makur Maker (CIBA)- Another kid we came to see that had a lot of hype coming into the game, but just didn't deliver for me. *transferred to Hillcrest Prep after game*
Take on Bronny James and Sierra Canyon:
Amari Bailey showed out and put a highlight windmill dunk on his personal reel.
BJ Boston was also very impressive. Both Boston and Bailey were great to watch defensively and in transition.
Let's be honest though, everybody showed up to see Bronny James and to me personally, he didn't disappoint. He can shoot the ball very well and is great to watch in open court. He isn't a top 5 player on his team, but he can be a spark off the bench as a Freshman.
Players I didn't get to watch and look forward to seeing:
Noah Taitz (Bishop Gorman)
Daishen Nix (Trinity International Schools)
Julian Strawther (Liberty)
